Re: An introduction to Aros that we porting to Raspberry Pi

Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:22 pm

This is a video of the latest version of Icaros 1.4 which is the main Aros distribution running on x86 (intel) platform. It is to show people what to expect as far as the operating system can offer.

Please note that this is running on 3ghz processor and obviously arm is not as quick, however, Aros is very efficient and the same demo would look the same on our Atom 1.6ghz netbooks.

With the great supporting chips we hope that the experience will be as good if not better than this. Especially as Aros is free and open source like Linux.

Thanks James, it does mention it on the first page of the video as well.

Basically for those unaware, Aros is an Open Source rewrite from scratch of the last official Amiga OS 3.1 written by commodore. It is source code compatible on non Amiga hardware and binary compatible on Amiga hardware. What this means is that Aros can run your old Amiga software on your existing Amiga, (note needs to be a fast one) and if on for example Raspberry Pi then the program can be recompiled to run on Aros very easily.
