Raspberry Pi for stores?

Fri Feb 14, 2014 6:00 pm

Hello,

I am running a few shops. I find it difficult for us to fit such big computers on such a small place. I have been looking at Raspberry Pi computers for a while and I want to ask:

1. Does anybody know how a RPi computer would support a printer, rather than with a USB port, probably wirelessly or bluetooth?

2. Does it support any store/database softwares for making purchases and keeping store information safe?
3. Would it be stable for such a purpose? Will it be lagging or will the internet connection cause problems at some point?

4. Can the operational system be limited only for certain purposes, eg remotely controlled in terms of blocking internet connection when needed or monitoring the computers?
I would be grateful if anyone replies to this. Thanks a lot.

Goodness, hadn't considered that - will have to try soonest to see what happens if I try to print from Pi to mine.

Mine is an ancient HP 6840 (one of their first WiFi models). Cups has a driver for it.

I haven't gotten very lucky with wifi, and I generally avoid it anyway. I would use a printer with an Ethernet port on it if you have the option then buy a small hub if you need a network connection.
