I'd have to say I'm in the same boat. I think it might be quite helpful for my other project (using the RasPi as a radio astronomy reciever, see http://www.raspberrypi.org/?pa.....#038;t=868
), having less overhead would free up a lot more power to do some signal processing. Come to think of it, so would having access to the DSP core in the GPU that I've heard of...
