How can I control my Raspberry Pi wirelessly?

I want to control my Raspberry Pi from my Android or iPhone, but I have no idea how. That is, I can do SSH and commands and connect to my Raspberry Pi, but I want my Android/iPhone to send commands when it is tilted, or touched in a certain place. I've seen some people do it with a remote control car and an iPhone, and I want to know how. Is there an app or something for this, or do I build the app myself?

You'll pretty much need to build an iPhone/Android app yourself to do this.

Unfortunately to run such a program on an iPhone you'll need to become an Apple developer which costs around £60.

My Android doesn't support the app :'( Any other (free) apps like that one out there? If not, I'll buy NetIO

But if it worked, you could probably set up icons in X to run scripts to do things. Zenity is quite good for simple dialogue boxes. But the display would be on the screen, not on the phone.
