Debian Security Updates

Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:23 pm

Hi,
i want to give raspbian a try an my raspberry pi and i like to know how security updates are handled.
Are security updates from debian (mirror: deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free) ported to raspbian and if yes how fast are the ported?

We import packages from security.debian.org and if everything goes well they should be in raspbian wheezy within 12 hours of them showing up on security.debian.org.

However there are some packages where the versions we have are out of step with debian and manpower issues unfortunately mean that security updates for these are unlikely to be looked at.

There is also the kernel issue. Currently the raspberry pi foundation's preffered kernel version is based on an upstream kernel version that no longer gets security updates.
