Raspberry Pi as PC and Media Center

Wed Aug 07, 2013 3:22 am

I have a friend that want's to use a Raspberry Pi for a media center with web browsing capability. He want's to be able to play videos online, look at websites, play videos/music on his hard drive.

I've used XBMC on an AppleTV before and looked into using it on my Pi. Any suggestions???

It's very important to know that the Pi isn't a fast browsing
machine. And anything which needs Flash is out of the question.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.

Buy an Android TV stick, I've got a Raspberry Pi and a Minix Neo G4 and for browsing the G4 with it's 1.2GHz dual core CPU is very fast with little lag, almost as good as my HP Laptop. The Pi on the other hand is painfully slow with browsing. As a matter of fact the G4 has become my main media server (video/music) running Android XBMC while I have moved the Pi to be more of a NAS system.
