A prebuilt 3.8.4 is available on next tree.
It has f2fs support built in, and fiq_fix_enable defaults to off (it's not currently compatible).

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update 2c4e92c01ff14d8f3e1ee35b995d430b4e6d1e1b[code]
should get you it.

It's not had much testing, but appears to work. Only recommended for people who want to help test.

Latest kernel ALSA driver supports mmap directly, so the current /etc/asound.conf (which enabled mmap emulation) is no longer required, and may cause problems.
So, if you have rpi-updated, and have audio problems then:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/asound.conf
will probably help.

How would I install Raspbian to an F2FS formatted drive? I know I can't dd, and copy/pasting the entire OS would cause permission issues.

By the way, I'm very excited for F2FS. Iozone tests on my flash drive show a ~10% improvement in every area. Except 512k writes are 2x faster. The real improvement is in random writes, which I heard are more important for OS speed. Especially 4k random writes.

Code: Select all

Random Write(16M)(ext4/f2fs): 4.4 / 10.1
Random Write(512K)(ext4/f2fs): 2.2 / 6.1
Random Write(4K)(ext4/f2fs): 0.143 / 2.93

Hi,

Anyone know what the most recent commit is about - "firmware: increase PCM buffer size again for ape audio" ?

Thanks.

I usually try to upgrade mi raspberry fw once a month.
I know that in the past the CMA (automatic memory split) was implemented but I had problems in the beginning.
How can I enable it today?
And about F2FS? How can I take advantages from this fs on the rasp?

Hi!

in case you are interested the Void Linux distribution (http://www.voidlinux.eu) contains images (2GB sdcards) for ext4 and f2fs. Please note that all packages are cross compiled via 'xbps-src' and it's a distribution made in my spare time. Currently there are +1700 packages cross compiled for RaspberryPi, including omxplayer.

Cheers

Has your release something related to CMA?

CMA is still considered an experimental feature that isn't recommended for most users.
Apart from moving to newer upstream kernel code (which could have affected its behaviour) no new work has been done on CMA.
