I've just bought a new charging cable on eBay for £1.99, and they're available cheaper. For that money you get two pigtails -- USB A and Micro B ;-)

But yes it would be very useful to not have to chop them, and it should be cheaper too, if made in sufficient quantity.

Do you mean just a uUSB on a lead with nothing connected at the other end?

Foxconn sell them, but they don't spec the voltage drop, they don't quote a price, and the minimum order is 10,000 units :-D

I wonder if they do samples.

With a million RaspPis out there, it might just be possible to shift that many, but you're up against the price of cutting a cable in half. I dare say you'd have to price it well under £1.

I ended up buying a USB A/B cable off ebay for less than a dollar and cutting it in half.

It's cheaper (and simplier) to do this than actually buying just one connector

I bought micro usb from ebay. Cut in half. Red and black are supposed to be +5 and gnd respectively but when I connect red to +5 and black to gnd on power supply, nothing. Led's do not light up on Pi. Supply is fine. Tried two different cables.

Never trust the colours ...

There is always the possibility that someone ignored the "scheme" and wired it up, pin-for-pin correct using whatever they felt like.

My wireless mouse has a black wire for battery + and a red wire for battery -

The connector on the board has black to "+" and red to "-", and it's polarised so nothing can go wrong.

Other than using the wrong colours :)

You need to probe the Microusb pins to see if you have continuity.
