Ah, but years ago it was not the way it WAS. Societal order has changed. When the lads at Fairchild went off and founded the firm, they broke a unwritten rule; one did not leave THE FIRM and go off and found a competitor. One remained with the firm in some capacity for life until retirement. This was the old way of doing things.,

Now, we laugh at non compete agreements (they are not legally enforceable) and go off and work for other firms, including all we brought with us in our memories from the old firm. Knowledge stealing and back stabbing are now the norm, and loyalty- both up and downhill- is a pleasant distant memory of a more naive age.

Shucks, I want to use RBP to build an entry level home computer product. This can be the model T of computing and surfing the web. If successful, will this have a positive effect on millions?

Will this cut into the trade of more expensive product lines, possibly laying off some people? Yeppers; Tough noogies.
This would reduce business for a number of more pricy firms, laying off some people as market share migrates to a more affordable product. Do I care? You're kidding yourself kbailey - the market economy has always done everything within it's power to survive - and that includes poaching employees from competitors / employees bailing with intellectual property and customer lists. It's not always good for the end user either - especially if the other end users in your demographic are driven by price over all other considerations. Race to the bottom, anyone? Or am I the only one willing to pay a fair price for stuff that does "exactly what it says on the tin"?
