Hi alexeames,

thanx for the great tutorial. Any Ideas on how to autostart the get-iplayer-web-pvr
on startup so it is running in the background on headless RPi machine and can
be controlled via the web interface "http://<IP of PI>:1935/" ?

I don't use it myself, but I would imagine it's a question of adding the command...

Code: Select all

perl get_iplayer.cgi --port=1935 --getiplayer=/path/to/get_iplayer
...to the startup file. I've forgotten what that's called. I'll look it up

Is it /etc/rc.local ?
I'll try it and see if it works. :?

This works. add this to rc.local before the last line exit :)

Code: Select all

perl /home/get_iplayer/get_iplayer.cgi --port=1935 --getiplayer=/home/get_iplayer/get_iplayer
I believe I read somewhere that this browser based pvr should not be web facing, as it's not very secure, so not a good idea to run it if you are using your pi as a web server. :o

Just for grins I tried streaming...

Video is obviously not up to much:

Code: Select all

./get_iplayer --stream Olympics | mplayer -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=0:fast:skiploopfilter=all -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0 -
"works", but only at 3fps video or so, audio is perfect though.

Radio stations work great, take your pick:

Nice one Mike. I think I read somewhere that a plugin for XBMC (which uses the GPU) can be used to stream BBC iplayer video. Haven't tried it though. :D

Yep - XBMC as a download install to your existing raspbian
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 98#p135798
and iplayer add-on works at full frame rate with that.

It is probably just ( :) ) a matter of employing the RPi's GPU hardware support for H.264 decoding. But I haven't a clue how to do that :( .

Hi,

Since I've had my Pi, I've been coding a rss feed creator which takes the get_iplayer download history and creates a rss aka podcast feed, which I use to automatically distribute tv and radio programs my mobile phone and XBMC. It works really well if you tie up the PVR function in get_iplayer with creating an rss feed, because you can tell it to download a whole series and it sends it out without you needing to be involved.

Anyway, I've released the alpha version of get_iplayer_genrss and would appreciate some feedback, so head over to http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/p/getiplayergenrss.html to info on how to install and use.

Cheers

Just an update here. You can now install get-iplayer on Raspbian without any piddling about...

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install get-iplayer ffmpeg atomicparsley libmp3-info-perl
...and you should be good to go.

Not only that, but one of the Get_iplayer devs has a Pi now and is working on some Pi specific deb files of the latest bleeding edge versions, which, it is hoped will be generally available in due course.

I've just gotten on the get_iplayer bandwagon....

A few question...

1) Is there a command of renaming the files to their date and removing the title from the file name?
I'm looking to download daily/weekly radio programs and would like to have get_iplayer name the files as "[show]-[date]"

Thanks

Update to the Raspberry Pi version (Raspbian) of Get_iplayer, with installation instructions here...

http://raspi.tv/2014/get_iplayer-raspberry-pi-update

Last week the BBC broke some of the most useful Get_iplayer functionality. It's patched already. I tested it this morning. :D

I can't understand how I haven't seen this before, but i've spent a few days getting to grips with it and its great. The issue for me now is storage space, I have filled my small usb stick and want to use an old external HDD I have instead.

So what would be the best format for the HDD ex3 or ex4 or something else?
b raspbian running get-iplayer and mini dlna server
b+ running volumio
pi 2 - dietpi - pihole, ssh and a few other bits
