System Instability

Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:39 pm

Hello

The raspberry pi i got crashes often and require a power cycle at regular interval.. The best uptime I've got has been 24 hours so far.

I use the power supply from Element14 raspberry site, a 1A power supply.

The unit is connected via ethernet port and has two pl2303 usb/serial adapters connected to it.

I tried limiting the USB port to USB 1.1 by adding dwc_otg.speed=1 to /boot/cmdline.txt as read in various blogs. Made no difference, Pi crashed after only a few hours.

I read about the need to use a powered USB hub. The 1A power supply should be sufficient I think. The PL2303 each draws less than 20mA), so adding that to the 750mA recommended for the Pi I'm well below the rating of my power supply.
Though I will try with a powered hub, just in case... A bit of a pity if you're not able to use the built-in USB if that's indeed the case..

As I reported in an earlier thread:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... =30025&e=0

I can consistently crash the unit by doing:
udevadm info -a -p $(udevadm info -q path -n /dev/ttyUSB0)

/dev/ttyUSB0 being one PL2303.

What are you guys doing with a similar setup so it doesn't crash as often?
Any hint, tricks etc???

I run the wheezy distribution found at http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/images ... spbian.zip

I had access to the Pi just then, and the board didn't actually crash, it had filled /var/log/syslog quite happily all this time.

I query the PL2303 /dev/ttyUSB0 device every 10s.
The last record I had in my log occurred on:
2013-01-21 03:26:19.

At this time, in /var/log/syslog I get:

Code: Select all
