Pi not recognising Ethernet plug

Sat Jan 05, 2013 7:06 am

Hey there,

I recently got my Pi for Christmas and I have setted it up and I went through a box of cables and I found a USB wifi adapter. I plugged it in and I had working Internet. Well, I went to power on my pi and I realised that the adapter had died. So, I Thought Oh well I will just use a Ethernet cable. Well me and my dad installed a cable directly from our wireless router and into my pi, but it didn't recognise it. I've been pinging google to see if it worked and tried editing the /etc/network/interfaces file but when I went to go ~$ sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces file, it opened up but there was nothing in there. I copied someone interfaces file and just replaced the address and gateway with my details, but still nothing

Please help me.

Redo your image. Something is not correct in your system.

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep eth
See if a ethernet adapter shows up. If so then you have software problems and a re-image of the SD card will fix it.
