Re: XBMC for Raspbian wheezy including airplay,nfs,dvdcss...

Tue Oct 16, 2012 11:48 pm

I just did a manual install of Raspbian/Update/Upgrade/Libraries//Libraries Fix/10-4 image of XBMC on a new 8GB Samsung Class 10 SD Card, and im getting issues playing videos. I had 1 video play fine, but most of them will play sound, but not display video. What i get is a gray screen with a pink square near the center then it starts to turn weirder from there. The whole interface seems to run slower than before.

The system seemed to work fine when using LXDE to get the system setup, so I don't think its the SD card.

Could the newest firmware be causing issues still?

Hard to say what your problem is. I don´t think thats a sd-card issue too, maybe you are right that it is related with the latest firmware. Did you take a look into the log file already?

It could also be a problem with your tv options. For a few weeks i installed the version on the clean raspbian installation but the resolution was totally wrong. It was 720 * 576 pixels...

Hi,

I followed the steps mentioned in the link below to install debs for taglib_20121005-1_armhf.deb & libshairport_1-1202030-1_armhf.deb

http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/inde ... /comments/

There is no /usr/local/lib/libtag.so.1.12.0 file in this folder for me to do a symlink. There are 2 files python2.7 python3.2 in it.

Pls advise

Hi,

i´ve checked the installation process. After you installed the taglib library with "taglib_20121005-1_armhf.deb" there are definitely the files to symlink. I had another user mentioned the same problem and it turns out that he did a mistake when downloading the packages. He used wget and downloaded the xbmc.deb twice and saved one of that copies with the name:"taglib_20121005-1_armhf.deb". So he thought installing taglib but it was xbmc instead. Please check your downloads :)

Otherwise i recommand to download the complete raspbian image + xbmc from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/selfpr ... e/download

Hi nIerSify,

I used your image and got XBMC working, sortof.
I can stream from my UPNP server, but it crashes often.

I was streaming mpeg2 files recorded from satelite from my server and it got more and more laggy and finally it stopped completely.

I have overclocking disabled because it was blocking with it.

I have tried to install your 20121015 image - seems to work fine, but AirPlay does not work on it - I am able to see the device through AirPlay, but it does not play any sound when connected.
Do you have any idea why?

I'm having the same problem with AirPlay; the Pi shows up in the music app on my iPhone, I can select it, but no sound comes out. On my desktop it makes iTunes show the AirPlay menu, but it doesn't show up in the menu. The image works great otherwise, though.

Hi,

I noticed the xbmc gui symptom when playing video, example, a 4:3 video on a 16:9 monitor, the background (black rectangle on the left & right) is display with the console text. After end play or stop half way, the video frame is turn off & the whole screen is occupied with the console terminal for few seconds before xbmc render back the standard gui.

It is quite eye-sore to see this console terminal screen after video ends..... even though I can fit the screen while playing, but not ending or stopping where xbmc is suppose to render fast enough to draw back the full gui.

Any advise ?

I cant get it to play mkv files either. It just shows a black screen and no sound - however the time is rolling.

Anybody know how to fix that?

Hi,

airplay does work in this image, but it has no airtunes support yet. Maybe there is the problem not getting the music to work....

Im right about to finish my bachelor thesis. I will look deeper into this after the end of november.

Best regards

A real hacky fix is to start an mp3 file and go full screen to the openGL screen thing that bounces to the music(then quit the song and go to your video). It seems that doing that kicks out the the display buffers so the backgound is black when playing videos.

Hi, now finally having a working pi (my first pi had to be returned..) the B model with the extended memory. Have Raspbian installed, have ssh and vnc (mac screensharing) into the pi and also installed xbmc. Which is also working, using a mini usb wifi dongle. So I managed to get soem youtube movies playing. And have the control trough xbmc remote app. Good so far.
Only thing what's still not working is Airplay. Would be nice to have that working as well. We have a few iphones and ipods around.

So I know it should be a simple setting in the system part of xbmc. But having searched all the tabs I am very sure it is not around at my xbmc. So, did I end up with the wrong version of xbmc?
How can I get this service or add-on running in my xbmc without having to reinstall it allover again. Thanks.

My second question: As mentioned I have (tightvnc) Vnc. When sharing a screen I only get the rasbian desktop (which is nice by the way). Is it also possible having a VNC with the xbmc screen?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

I used the instructions (first part) from this post here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 13#p133213 and installed soem missing libs. and Amavi-deomon.

13#p133213 and installed some missing libs. and Amavi-deomon.

mr_wberrypi wrote:Hi, now finally having a working pi (my first pi had to be returned..) the B model with the extended memory.

Hi,

which version of xbmc are you using? In case you use the version i have compiled, airport should work after installing the avahi-daemon. See here: http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/inde ... /comments/

Raspbian XBMC (keyboard issue)

If I'm in the wrong topic, remove this.

I followed this guide and it runs just fine: http://michael.gorven.za.net/blog/2012/08/06

But my keyboard acts as a giant remote control.

Is there a way to change it back to a keyboard so I can use letters in the search box?

P.S. If I broke any other forum rules; let me know because I have a habit of not knowing what they are and then I get a lot of people upset with me.
