Camera and flat-panel display.

Let me know, folks, if you can\'t post on the front page; I\'ve had to enable cacheing so we don\'t get brought down by other sites linking people to raspberrypi.org, because this last change has been quite newsworthy!

Those pictures are very exciting.
Liz, when you get hold of them can you try one in an M&S mint tin? :)

If you read the post, I do point out that unfortunately, Pete only took pictures of the top! I\'m going to his offices tomorrow to pick some up, so I\'ll take pics of the other side then too.

And Dave - I will do my best; I\'ll try to stop at one of those motorway service station M&Ss tomorrow on my way up.

Thats a thing of beauty, I didn\'t realise there would be connectors on those adapters on the top, not the GPIO but the other ones that look like they take one of those really thin laptop LCD panel leads, worried I may of had to do some surface mount soldering.

Out of interest what is your lead time on manufacturing? I realise that this has been a small run so to keep costs down it wasn\'t an overnight job or anything but it\'s taken about a month from nothing to getting a fully populated PCB. If all goes well do we expect them to be available later half of Jan?

Definitely - there was a big problem getting a slot at Pete\'s factory for a run this small, because they were absolutely chock-a-block with paying customers and simply couldn\'t make the time to clear enough space for us. Once we\'re paying factories for dedicated production runs, that problem goes away.

Nice, seems like the release date is just round the corner!

@matt_heyes: I may be wrong, but i think those flat cable connectors will be omitted from the final boards, for cost reasons. Very few people would have practical use for them (you couldn\'t plug a normal laptop display/camera in them and make it work). They\'re specialised interfaces for cell-phone type displays/cameras.

@anwe79
I thought at least one of those would be what the Camera module sold by RPi would plug in to so might be fairly popular. And I think what I was trying to say previously was LVDS.

Great to see a real deal board, would be nice to specify the model of the two connectors and preferably say an RS/Farnell number if you can so folks can go out and be sure they get the right ones. It will be nice to see the other 9900 maybe in a month or so ????? :)

All the best

I may well be wrong about the connectors (hope so), that\'s just from what I\'ve read around the forum and wiki. From what I understand the camera module won\'t be shipped initially, but that may well have changed, I haven\'t got any inside info.

Ps I just posted this to slashdot. Although i find it unlikely my first post there would penetrate the noise floor, my apologies beforehand if the webserver(s) get slashdotted...

They look fantastic ! Congratulations to all involved on reaching beta.

I live in Cheshire (where the boards are being put together I believe?) and am travelling down not that far from Cambridge later today.....it\'s all so close and yet so far !! It\'s too much ! ;)

Brilliant work.

And I bet people will still call it vaporware! :P It\'s amazing how those connectors look so large next to the board!

I\'m also interested in hearing if the DSI and SPI connectors will make it to the final board or if they are like the GPIO pins (on there for testing)

Congratulations guys! What a milestone!

I noticed that when I go to the main page before logging in here, it shows only two comments are there. After logging in, there are 43. That must be why the posting password isn\'t accepted. It\'s showing an old password.
Must not be much of a secret though, since I was allowed to know it.

Slashdot is running to form. Vaporware, VAPORWARE!!!!
and quote: But why is it front page news every time these guys pass gas?

One feels that the typical poster there runs around in a headcollar with blinkers.....

And after reading the utter negativity in the majority of the posts, I feel like I need a shower.

Nevermind.

Its a wonderful thing to see the populated boards. I missed out on seeing them last night; I shut down the PC just before they were posted! :-(

I hope the same won\'t happen when the release is announced...

Interesting ...

Like many others, I\'d like to know more about the DSI and SPI connectors.

I\'m also surprised that the USB connector isn\'t at all aligned with the ethernet one and with the board itself.
