This allows It to act as memory and storage in a combined package. Really a couple of terabyte should do it for RasPi revision #47

Last time this came up I remember that Liz said this was a mistake by Element 14 and that someone had added a placeholder for a non-existent product. I would not be surprised to find this is some sort of similar glitch. I wonder if their contract with the Foundation even allows them to make such a product.

Just to fan the flames a bit ... I'm pretty sure thatI saw a comment recently by someone who heard Eben imply (perhaps at recent maker fair in USA) that 512MB is coming soon.

search for "zram swap" on the forums and make a 64MB compressed swap ram disk. This will make the stall to swap more gradual, and not a sudden crawl. It will make a 32MB window of slight slowness earlier, and a 32MB window of not as slow as full on thrashing. This gives about a 64MB window of gradual decline into swapping to swap disk.

Also due to the way swap paging works, the critical page set for any application is usually quite small. It can be reduced further at compile time with profiling and a super flashy linker which is not yet available (it could place common use code in same paging block, and cache lines). And al optimization in the distro needs to be done for small size, as with good caching this is often the highest speed setting too, for large stuff.

It's way too early in the prototyping stage to make a 512MB version, as this would move development away from making the best of 256MB.

EDIT: I just check the E14 site, they do not sell the raspberry pi with 256mb RAM only selling 512mb!

To order it off Newark, I had to go to the E14 community, there is a link advertising the new larger memory pi on the landing page for the pi community. I'm uncertain as to when the Newark page will contain a link to purchase the larger pi.
