raspberry pi DOA?

Sun Oct 07, 2012 9:10 am

i have been trying everything in order to get my pi running, but it refuses.
I have several components from this page:
http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals
i use this as PSU;
HTC 5V 1A TC E250 USB charger (HTC R/N: 79H00098-02M)
and this sc card:
16GB SDHC Class 10 (image write had issues, might be my inexperience. It boots & shows Xserver)

but i cannot get anything to work: raspbian, raspbmc, openelec, xbian. The red led is on and the green led flashes 3 times and then nothing

I am out of ideas whats going wrong with my pi

First off, there's a Wiki page that might help you: http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting

According to that, three flashes means that loader.bin hasn't been found.

The Pi starts by looking for bootcode.bin in the first, fat32, partition of the SDcard. If it can't find that, nothing at all will happen.
That provides enough intelligence to look for loader.bin, then start.elf. Finally kernel.img runs.

I'm not clear what you mean when you say "It boots & shows Xserver" refering to the card? Boots in the Pi? Or do you mean image write boots?

no, thats whats written at the elinux page, i just copied and pasted it

i do notice though, when i press down the sd card, i do get the rainbow screen and boot screen, but when i release it the pi halts again. So a faulty sd card reader?

Sorry - I misunderstood!

Yes, either the card reader or the card itself. Someone somewhere had a similar problem, which he found to be the contacts on the reader. He solved it by (carefully) bending them up to make better contact.

you may also have a card with dirty contacts, you may try to clean them carefully.
