This was how I fixed my clock display. It sets the timezone for the X environment:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
Regarding your script:
If all you want to do is interrupt the running program, then you can use Ctrl-\ (backslash) or Ctrl-c.
If you want someting a bit more elegant you can always periodically check the keyboard from within the script, and, say, check for "q" being pressed.
If you want it to keep running but let you have control of your session back, then you can run it as a separate process by adding "&" to the command line, like this:
python test.py &
It will tell you the process number, it should still output to your session, and when you are done you can type "kill -9 nnnn" where nnnn is the process number. Without knowing more about the script I can't say if this will be a useful way of running it or not
