Need help with everything for a github project.

Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:49 am

Hello this is my first post so hope its in the correct forum area if not can admin please move it. Hope you can all help me getting this github project working because i`m just getting started with the RPI. I`m trying to do this project in the link here I can`t seem to get it to work i think it may be because its on a older operating system.
I think i need to find out how to get it working on the newest RPI OS that i have downloaded and using a RPI 3.
If you have any advice on converting it to work on the newer RPI OS. please be kind i have no idea what i`m doing yet.

"I can`t seem to get it to work"

What have you tried? How does it seem to fail?

Have you considered asking the author/developer for advice with their own project? https://github.com/martinr1000/AliensMo ... ker/issues

I tryed running it in desktop and i get erros in a shell box.

trackback (most recent call last);
file "home/pi/tracker/main.py " line 15, <in module>

from audioimport trackeraudio
file "home/pi/tracker/audio.py "line 6, <in module>

from pyscope import pyscope
file "home/pi/tracker/psscope.py "line27
print driver: {0} failed format driver.

Is there a way to copy the text from my rpi to paste it here insted of typing everything in ?

How, exactly, are you trying to run the script? It is intended to be run with the python interpreter, which will use the Python2 'dialect' of the language. If you try to run it with the currently recommended Python3 interpreter errors like the one you report might be expected.

Have you taken into account the detailed Installation instructions in the file 'tracker install.txt'?

Yes: copy and paste works...

The sequence of errors you show is a stack, where the first error is displayed last.
First error which occurs breaks pyscope and is interesting:
line 27 is

Code: Select all

 print 'Driver: {0} failed.'.format(driver)
which is part of

Code: Select all

        # Check which frame buffer drivers are available
        # Start with fbcon since directfb hangs with composite output
        drivers = ['fbcon', 'directfb', 'svgalib']
        found = False
        for driver in drivers:
            # Make sure that SDL_VIDEODRIVER is set
            if not os.getenv('SDL_VIDEODRIVER'):
                os.putenv('SDL_VIDEODRIVER', driver)
            try:
                pygame.display.init()
            except pygame.error:
                print 'Driver: {0} failed.'.format(driver)
                continue
            found = True
            break
Scans for 3 drivers ...

Do you use python3 (print has a different syntax than python 2: your code is obviously for python2)...
Did you read https://github.com/martinr1000/AliensMo ... nstall.txt

BTW: this seems somewhat complicated for 1rst steps with RPi and -perhaps- python

I was hoping someone would know how to get it working on the newer OS. Or if someone could even change if for me to get it working. I have no idea how it all works.

Presumably the author/developer would know?

Or you could try, at a shell (Terminal or Command Line) prompt -

Code: Select all

python main.py
and report back on your success or failure...

Hint: I tried this on a system running RasPiOS Buster before posting the advice... It generates a screen with a semicircular 'scaffolding' with a blue box under it with some incomprehensible numbers. I have no idea what is supposed to happen after that. No changes were needed.

I think your seeing it correctly. I will give it a go at the command line.

It isn't clear from what you have written how you have installed the code from the github repository, but you could try -

Code: Select all

cd /home/pi/tracker
python main.py
I have no idea how to contact the creator via github i dont see any contact infomation.

You could try using the explicit link to the repository Issues page that I provided several posts ago...

I don't think I have anything further to contribute so will now withdraw from the discussion.

Thanks for all the advise .Goode.
I managed to get it working using Buster OS. But it only seems to work if i boot into desktop first. and add this auto start part.:

Code: Select all

Auto Startup
1) open lxterminal
2) type the following then press enter:
	sudo nano ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart
3) add the following at the end of the file
	@sudo python2 /home/pi/tracker/main.py
But it will not boot up if i add the auto start but boot into terminal. Do you know how i can get it to boot up using the terminal. the error is listed below.

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ cd /home/pi/tracker
pi@raspberrypi:~/tracker $ python main.py
pygame 1.9.4.post1
