Mozilla Thunderbird Versions

Sat Jun 20, 2020 3:41 am

Stable releases

Debian:Buster - 1:68.9.0-1
Debian:Buster:arrmhf - 1:60.9.0-1
RpiOS 1.68.8.0-1

I'm a bit curious how RpiOS got ahead of Debian? And will it happen again?

I accidentally let my PC update to 68.9 which means I can't transfer my profile (and a few tens of thousands of emails) straight across to my Pi4 until RpiOS updates which seems unlikely if Debian are struggling to get above 60.9 for the armhf?

I wonder if this is related to the extremely slow start up I have seen on the last few(?) Thunderbird updates(PiOS)?

I was surprised at that slowness which happens even before any accounts were created.

A couple of us had a thread on this a couple of months(?) back. The other guy pulled the Debian (or at least a non PiOS version) of Thunderbird and it apparently did not have the slowness problem. Which is why I posted the above. For me at least the PiOS version works OK, after it is up an running.

Thanks, always useful to know background info. i didn't bother looking into the slowness as my main problem is transferring a 1.69.0.x profile across to the pi, I could probably bodge it backward some versions but you never know what problems could pop up in the future.

I have a lot of email accounts going into Thunderbird as well a loads of filtering into sub-folder etc. I'm trying to minimise the use of my PC and keep pi as my main day-to-day desktop but I want the emails to mirror each other on the pi and PC so I can use either.

I can't afford to have something mess up my emails, I have them doubly backed up but that only works if you know the profile was good the last time it was backed up. Using incremental backups which would be ideal aren't practical because some of the regularly used files are GByte size.

Yes, I'm a hoarder, I like to keep proof of a lot of transactions and conversations.
