ALSALOOP behaving badly since Buster upgrade

Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:59 pm

Setup:
Pi3B, Cirrus audio card, SPDIF input, alsaloop, tailored asound.conf, usb output to two digital amplifiers.

Before moving to Buster (fresh install) this was working well, no obvious delay, no artifacts.

Now there are frequent blips, and alsaloop terminates by itself after a few minutes.

Any ideas?

An update. Using analogue input works without any blips.

So I need to try a few changes to the alsaloop options for SPDIF.

Too soon; after some time the analogue input version also started to add some digital artifacts.

I encountered the same difficulties when using kernel modules for a sound card with a DAC
cirrus logic. After several attempts to achieve high-quality sound with Buster, I came to the conclusion that this OS is rubbish. In Bustere problems at the kernel level, the loadable module causes freezes.
I gave up on Buster and switched to Jessie. There are no more problems.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll do likewise.
