Could it be explained in a simpler way?

Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:15 am

Upon updating Raspbian Buster with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
I get this error:

Code: Select all

E: Repository 'http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease' changed its 'Suite' value from 'testing' to 'stable'
N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be applied. See apt-secure(8) manpage for details.
The man pages are at least as confusing as the main error containins absolutley no examples of the expected syntax to accept the stable release.
Could it be possible to get a simple example of how to accept above mentioned InRelease?

Thank you for helping

Run "sudo apt update" instead and it'll prompt you. apt-get is intended for non-interactive usage in scripts so works differently to apt.

It is very unlikely apt-get or the man pages will be modified. It has been like this in upstream Debian for a long time now and the Raspbian maintainers try to avoid modifying packages as it is a maintenance headache.

Use APT as recommended:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo reboot

Background: 'apt-get' used to be the recommended way to do these things, then 'apt' was developed as a successor.

Sort of.

apt was developed as a more "user friendly" way to do things. apt-get is best for automated scripts and other things and is fine if you are used to doing things that way.

You will have to prise my apt-get from my poor dead broken pedipalps before I stop using it ;-)

Personally, I prefer aptitude, though I do still use apt mostly. Haven't used apt-get since the moment I found out I didn't have to type the -get bit.
