making pi as ad hoc network and communicate to other Pi

Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:17 am

Hello there,
i want to make my pi as a ad hoc network. i have seen some of the tutorials and web sites. but there is no help from them.
https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... connection

i am using the network manager Applet 1.4.4.
MY AIM is to use two pi board and connect them to the ad hoc network.
In this ad hoc network i can send some json data from one to another.
I am just making this for vehicle to vehicle communication purpose.
i just make a pi board as Wifi hotspot which is act as a Road side unit. and others pi board act as client or On board units.
now connection is established but client to client i has to make so that they also share its information to each other at the same time while communicating to the RSU.
I think this can be possible with the Ad-hoc network.
your reply is helpful for me.
thanks in advance.

I think this can be possible with the Ad-hoc network.
An wifi Ad-hoc link is between two (only two) devices where none of them is a AP (access point).
You can not have both ad-hoc mode and infrastructure mode on the same wifi adapter at the same time.

What you are describing is a V2V or V2X system ( Vehicle to Vehicle / Vehicle to Anything ) there has been a lot of research done in that field over the years. example: https://www.mdpi.com/1999-5903/11/2/27

yes you are right sir,
i just want to make v2v system . i have done the part of v2x system where one of the pi board used as RSU and other used as on board vehicle units and communicate via udp packets.
but how can i communicate to the vehicles at the same time which is my other on board vehicle units.

To me "mesh networking" sounds like a possible solution:

Does your project assignment (or your interpretation of what v2x requires) mandate the use of ad-hoc networking?

An alternative network configuration where you set up one node as a conventional WiFi access point and associate with that access point using standard WiFi client configurations on the other nodes could also give you bi-directional IP connectivity.

The Raspberry Pi documentation for this configuration is here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... s-point.md
