wheezy distribution gone

Fri May 17, 2019 11:13 am

Hello everyone,

just noticed today that the wheezy distribution (http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian/) is gone. Has it been archived somewhere?
Please help, I still need wheezy dist as I am in the need to build raspbian wheezy packages.
Thanks in advance

Hi,

thank you but I am looking for the package repository, not images. It seems that the wheezy distribution/repository is gone from all servers/mirrors.
Can anyone tell me how to find a raspbian wheezy repo?

Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

You might, possibly, find it on the 'way back machine'.

If you are still running wheezy, you might want to consider making your software work on stretch.
Wheezy is very old and there have been a huge number of security updates since it went EOL, several of them critical.

Or wait a bit for when Buster comes out, depending on what your setup is doing.
Though I think the changes *if any* from stretch to buster are much easier than from wheezy to anything.

Not sure how to change /etc/apt/sources.list to reflect the new wheezy location.
Any hints?
Thanks!

You really should think long and hard about build a new system using Buster. Your software is six years out of date.

Yeah, I understand. However, I just want to add one thing, iptables-persistent, to this embedded device. It has been significantly modified over the years, and unfortunately I don't have good notes for the first couple of years worth of modifications, so it's not worth me starting from scratch again. It wil take a while and I don't want this system down for the time it will take.

Thanks for the link!

So, skipping the advice not to meddle with a 'fragile' - but apparently critical - system, what is the stumbling block?

You know the name of the file.

You know the new content required.

All that remains is to edit the file as necessary. Is choosing an appropriate text editor the outstanding issue?

I'm OK. I've changed sources.list to the legacy link, and all is good. apt-get is now working. Thanks for the advice!!
