Rasbian is not starting up after update

Wed Oct 09, 2019 1:01 pm

I did the follwing commands:
sudo apt-get update.
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.

After this Rasbian is not starting up
He gives the splash screen and then it turns into black

Also my Domiticz is working on this so my smarthouse is UPSET

I can reach recovery mode.
Green is flashing for times.
Red light is on all the time.
I m booting from a SSD Drive (USB) instead of SD Card

Can anybody help me please?

Which version of Raspbian were you using?

The "dist-upgrade" may be upgrading the major OS version from stretch to buster. If you have tried to upgrade to buster without adjusting the boot partition, your upgrade will fail. Also there are a number of other steps that are necessary to attempt an OS upgrade using this approach.

If you are updating your packages use the following commands:

sudo apt-get update

If there are updates to be installed use:

sudo apt-get upgrade

Anf if you receive a message about packages no longer needed them use:

sudo apt-get autoremove

It is possible to use just "apt" and not "apt-get" in the above commands.

Have you used the SD card duplicate to create a backup of your system?

I am afraid you will need to build your system form scratch.

You might want to add a step to backup your system and test the backup prior to updating your software.

Do not use the "dist-upgrade" unless told to do so by an experienced user and make a backup of your SD card prior to attempting this command.

Really?

That is directly contrary to the advice given by Raspberry Pi themselves:
Next, upgrade all your installed packages to their latest versions with the following command:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Generally speaking, doing this regularly will keep your installation up to date for the particular major Raspbian release you are using (e.g. Stretch). It will not update from one major release to another, for example, Stretch to Buster.

That is directly contrary to the advice given by Raspberry Pi themselves:
Because the dist-upgrade (= full-upgrade) doesn't by itself upgrade the current system to the next major OS version.
