Firmware/Kernel issue on latest version ?

Mon Sep 23, 2019 10:57 am

Hi all,

we have notice an issue on hdmi after latest update of firmware/kernel/bootloader version below:

Code: Select all

vcgencmd version
Aug 15 2019 12:06:42
Copyright (c) 2012 Broadcom
version 0e6daa5106dd4164474616408e0dc24f997ffcf3 (clean) (release)(start)

Code: Select all

uname -a
Linux 4.19.66-v7+ #1253 SMP Thu Aug 15 11:49:46 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux
We need to use a custom hdmi config due to our LCD size as below

Code: Select all

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 3 0 0 0
and after this latest update the hdmi screen is totally gray. the tvservice command returns also an incorrect value:

Code: Select all

tvservice -s
state 0x6 [DVI DMT (87) RGB full 16:9], 800x480 @ 59.00Hz, progressive
it seems, after many tests, that the only way to solve the issue is to open the config.txt file using sudo nano config.txt and exit without any modification, so that the file access date is modified.

Is there someone who had the same problem (Raspberry Pi 3B+) ? How did you solve it ?

Thank you in advance

I forgot something very important,

this problem occurs when the rootfs is on USB key and not on SD-CARD.

In the latest version of the bootloader there must be a problem starting the file system from USB.

Unfortunately I can't use the sd-card as the basis for the file system, this is causing me a lot of problems

I also enabled bootloader messages with

Code: Select all

sed -i -e "s/BOOT_UART=0/BOOT_UART=1/" bootcode.bin
but I don't see any error message

can someone help me?

Thank you

There is an issue (and workaround) known for Raspberry Pi 3B/3B+ with Raspbian Stretch when booting from USB.

Can you point to the exact post in that thread where the fix is described ?

But actually I would recommend to start at the beginning, just to make sure that it's the right issue for the solution.

The workaround suggested by you solved the issue.

I hope for a fix asap.

Thank you.
