Weird issues with apt-get

Sat Sep 21, 2019 10:59 am

Hello

I like to try and keep my Pi boxes up to date and was doing a usual apt-get update/upgrade and I came across this issue:

Code: Select all

Hit:2 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian stretch InRelease

E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

No matter how long I wait, the old reliable HEANET (which is near me in Ireland) keeps giving a 404.

My source was set to:

Code: Select all

deb http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free rpi
and I changed it to this which seems to work:

Code: Select all

deb http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/sites/archive.raspbian.org/archive/raspbian buster main contrib non-free rpi

Is that ok?

A bloke here (https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... -respibian) says that might stop me getting RPF additions/modifications?

I think it's most likely a timing issue with the servers being updated while you were running the commands.

The versions of software that apt is trying to pull in have been replaced by newer versions, so it can't find them.

Try the apr-get update again, then the upgrade.

The Debian repositorydoesn't suffer from this issue as they have bigger servers and keep all the old copies of the software available instead of just the current versions, but their software isn't compatible with the Pi1 or Zero range.

Thanks for the reply,

Issue still persists, is there any caveat to changing the mirror as I have done?

Seems to work well, and it's an official mirror, but I am concerned it might cause issues later.

Same here in Ireland (Dublin) since yesterday, i confirm this is not an issue with your installation.
I tried with Raspbian jessie, stretch and buster (with raspberry pi 3b, Zero, and 4b) without any success.

No, there shouldn't be any problem with changing the mirror - unless that mirror has a problem. Then you won't be able to download anything and won't get redirected to another working mirror.

In the meantime, you have a working connection, so no need to worry :)

It might be an issue with the mirror - I am getting the same from Heanet - I will see if there is a contact there I can raise an issue with
