I'm trying to get my pi4 to output in standard def resolution and I'm only seeing 1920x1080 on my monitor. My goal is to out put video for my Sega Blast City monitor and when I try to hook it up to the monitor, the image is split 3 ways and compressed. I was told it is probably due to the output still being in HD instead of SD. I've tried to modify the config.txt file for standard def. I've tried all sorts of settings and nothing seems to work. Has anyone else successfully connected their Pi to an actual arcade monitor? If so, what settings did you use? Was it a pi 4 or 3 and below?

The image looks fine on my standard PC LCD 23" monitor. Only when it's hooked up to the cab, it's all skewed.

Here are the settings I had to use on a Vizio D32hn-D0 to get a display from my RasPi 4"
hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=16

And while all of this re-configuring of these videos parameters is way over the head of most newbies, they'll sure learn a lot by sticking with it and getting their monitor working with there RasPi 4!

Hi,

Got this 4K display here: the LG 27UK850-W

Added

to the Pi4's config.txt

But the highest resolution I get is 2560x1440 at 59.95Hz frequency

the display should be able to handle 3840x2160 at 60Hz ...

after trying to switch HDMI-1's resolution to 3840x2160, the screen goes dark and shows a "no-signal" message. Then after 10 seconds, the pi switches back to 2560x1440.

What is "RaspEX Build 190807"?
What does tvservice -m CEA report?
If "RaspEX Build 190807"" is not (equivalent to) current Raspbian Buster try that instead and report back. Also, for Buster, and since my TV possibly has similar capabilities to yours you may find these recent notes of interest: http://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi ... erP4B.html - in particular your config.txt seems to have had least one inappropriate entry (in the [all] section).

RP4 can not display on LG 29wk600. It is always show "no signal" . How can i fix this problem ?

Hi all,

My HDMI monitor falls off in this category HDMI group= 1 and HDMI mode = 16. I tested it with the command given above but still, it doesn't give output on the HDMI monitor. I have checked my HDMI monitor conf and it is 1080p/1920x1080 Hz. When I changed in config.txt it stopped ssh also. Please help...

Yesterday I got an Asus VT168 monitor (with touch).

The monitor has two inputs: HDMI and VGA.

Through HDMI (both Pi 4 ports) it is not recognized by the Pi 4, even though the Pi 3 (with the same SD card) has no problems with connecting it straight HDMI to HDMI.

I then tried the VGA port (using a VGA - HDMI cable): that works well, even with the recommended somewhat strange resolution of 1366x768 @59.79Hz.

I use Buster (10). Any help appreciated on how to get it also working using HDMI.

Note: the touch part does work out of the box at both the Pi 3 and Pi 4 so while I would really like to only use HDMI - HDMI it is a great working solution in the end having a touch screen on the Pi for a little over 100€.

Update:
I now also got HDMI output by enabling:
hdmi_safe=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
config_hdmi_boost=4

It does not work with 1366x768 yet but does with 1024x768.

Update 2:
I ended up using 1920x1080p, seems to work ok. Everything is a little small but at least touch and the screen are in synch and it properly fills my entire screen etc through HDMI. Update 3:
Because of some other software I updated Raspbian. Now it does accept 1366x768 but it does now have an 'underscan' issue.

Is (re)solved it, now it works perfectly!!!

Disabled hdmi_safe again (was solved in the update apparently):

Fiddled around with overscan_ borders:

overscan_right=10
overscan_top=8
overscan_bottom=5

Brand new Pi owner here. I have linux experience but mostly my use case was working out of the box and not doing a lot of trouble shooting. I read the forums and saw some of the requested items. See below.

I've had it now for about two weeks. I use it as a Desktop more than anything else. I have self loaded Rasberrian onto the SD card. I'm running XFCE4 desktop. I am experiencing some performance issues with video's. I simply turned on dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d to get my monitor working properly. So I am seeking some advise for tuning my graphics card and monitors to see if I can hopefully stop the studdering.

I have run rpi-update on my Pi and I am using the newer firmware.

Hi,
I'm having an issue with 4B and custom DMT mode. I've got a VGA display that has a resolution of 400x240 15:9. It worked perfectly with RasPi Zero W and a HDMI to VGA converter with the following settings:

Now when I put those settings into config.txt of 4B I get scrolling lines across the screen. Clearly something wrong with the 4B display driver?? Even the startup rainbow is distorted and split into many horizontal lines at an angle.

tvservice on the 4B reports this:

So in theory it should work, but it doesn't.

Is group2, mode87 broken on 4B?

UPDATE:

Just checked what does the TV SERVICE report on my Zero:

Therefore there is a 1Hz difference in the refresh rate and the monitor might not like that. What clock is this dependent on and can it be changed (ideally it should be 60Hz).

I have the same screen and the same issue. Thanks to your post I could get it working. Actually, just the setting hdmi_drive=1 is enough in my case. This switches it to DVI mode.
However, my sound doesn't work whit this setting. It worked on the previous RPI3 with the monitor through HDMI and then a speaker connected to the monitor. Now there's no sound regardless where I connect the speaker to (RPI directly or monitor).

Any ideas here?

As you have switched your HDMI output to DVI mode you will not get sound as DVI does not carry sound. Sound output is only possible with HDMI output mode.

hdmi_drive=2 should enable sound even when working in DVI mode.

Hi,
I understand that DVI doesn't carry sound and that it won't work through the HDMI cable.
My problem is that it doesn't even work on the sound output directly at the Raspi...
