Upgrade from pi 2B rev 1.1 to pi 4B(4GB)

Hi, I've just ordered a new pi 4B (4GB) to replace my existing pi 2B rev 1.1.

Can I just take the SD card out and plug it straight into the new pi, or should I reinstall everything from scratch? Are there any hardware specific things in the install? I'm using OSMC and Kodi and using it as a TV/Movie media centre. I use a network cable to connect to my server and the Internet, so don't really use the wi-fi. The pi 2B has been brilliant and reliable, but it is starting to struggle a bit with recent higher resolution videos and codecs.

Also, is there any benefit of upgrading the SD card to a faster speed class?

you need upgrade to Buster first.

A Pi4B will make good use of an A1 class card.

I would but a new card for the 4B and keep the old SD card installed in your 2B, just in case you can't get everything working right away. As already mentioned A1 class cards are quite nice compared to cheaper ones. However, I am currently using a store-branded 16GB card that was purchased for US$ 2.99 at Micro Center and it works surprisingly well.

Yeah, just reading up on that. Sounds like they are close to releasing the new images though, so may hold off until they are available. Would prefer to stick to something like OSMC or LibreELEC.

I was NOT able to use the image I made for the RPI 3B+ on my new RPi 4B 4GB. I had to do a NOOBS install. Sadly lacking in linux instructions. But you literally unzip the image into the fat filesystem the SD cards ship with. Which gives you two options to install on the card at boot time: Raspbian or LibreElec.
