Is a power switch possible

Mon Jul 22, 2019 3:50 pm

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.

I haved an iR camera for my Pi and I'm very happy with it BUT it gets very, very hot and I could easily double battry life if I could power it down when I'm not using it (most of the time).

I can't stop power going to the ribbon cable. Could I break the power line(s) in the ribbon cable and add a switch safely?

I guess I'm really asking if it is OK to hot plug the camera.

Hot plugging camera does not work, needs to be present at boot.
But what you state sounds as if you have IR leds connected to and powered by the camera.
6by9 always stated that running IR leds from 3.3V rails is bad.
You should power the IR leds externally in that case.
I have never had a hot v1/v2 [NoIR] camera module when no IR leds were connected.

Would it be possible to boot with it, then unplug it temporarily and re-plug it when necessary?

No, several people have destroyed their Pi doing this.

As mentioned in the previous post, do you have any IR LEDs?
