Between this issue, the ApacheGUI and your SSH issues I would start with a new image and give up on this server - I feel that it will take more time to sort out than start afresh.

Can you run Raspberry Pi / armhf software in a VMware virtual machine?

Have you done a quick google for “MySQL reset root password” ?
Also is the VMWare Workstation Player running on Windows or Linux?

Your Pi is probably fine, but your root file system is corrupt...

Sorry, I thought you were running Raspbian in a VM under VMWare, with various snapshots.
So can you restore an older snapshot that works?
Also is your network connection to the pi working?

This just gets odder and odder...

VM Pi or old physical, odd errors, wonder if someone is trying to crack a box or troll.

I do not think I can add anything else.

VMWare does not support emulating the ARM CPU of the Raspberry Pi..

...so what Operating System are you actually running ????

That would be interesting as the Raspberry Pi 4B only has 4 cores.
Also it runs Raspbian which is based on Debian 10.0/32 bit.

If you downloaded Debian with Raspberry Pi Desktop (32bit Userland with Architecture specific kernel) it is not Raspbian or related to Operating Systems running on Raspberry Pi SBC.

Totally and utterly confused...........

on my raspberry Pi with "Raspbian Buster Lite It" it dont want go install ??

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install mysql-server php-mysql -y

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package mysql-server is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  mariadb-server-10.0 ( dont work to )

Code: Select all

E: Package 'mysql-server' has no installation candidate

Please stick to facts, we are not interested in other hardware / software it is just confusing the issue, swearing is also not needed, children read this forum.

Regards you issue, running Raspbian Buster on your Raspberry Pi:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mariadb-server-10.3 php-mysql
sudo reboot

Perfect.

And mysql is a wonderful package once you get to know it. Served me well for many years. Try setting-up Oracle and dealing with its hideous schemas and crap if you want a real frustrating database experience.

Thanks.

Using mariadb-server-10.3 instead of mysql.server worked for me.
