Hi there,
We have designed our own CM3 board with LAN9514 and the chip operational temperature is significantly higher than that on the RPi. I read the above comments about the power consumption for the Microchip documented operation vs. RPi reduced power approach. I just want to make sure that the excessive heat is normal and the temperature difference between our design and RPi is because of the undocumented modification they made.
The power consumption of this chip is pretty high and I am very disappointed to use it in our solar powered system. Any recommendation?
Re: LAN9514
Do you need Gigabit ethernet? if not can you use the lan9512?
Re: LAN9514
That won't be much different from the 9514. Both have 100Mb ethernet. The 9512 has two USB ports and the 9514 has four.

Re: LAN9514
sorry getting mixed up with something else .
The LAN9512 saves about 200mW over the LAN9514 with the loss of two USB ports.
If you can force Full Speed USB this will also reduce power dissipation.
