out of curiosity is your monitor powered from the same or different mains circuit?

The same main circuit. I have a pc, 2 monitors, router and both rpi here on the same socket.

In addition - when rpi boots up and works and if i put hdmi cable in ( after successfull boot) it doesnt work also - no signal on monitor on both hdmi outputs. I can control it only via ssh then. I can do any test if needed. I'm using samsung sd card 32GB for it -flashed it with etcher, no mods , just clean raspbian lite.

Unless you put hdmi_force_hotplug=1 in config.txt
That's usually the first thing I do.

I've had good results with a simple 'tvservice -p'.

This gives blank screen output on HDMI0 for me and no signal on HDMI1.

With this enabled in config.txt i did 2 reboots and i got normal screen on HDMI0 - that's great as it looking like it's working, but...

If i try libreelec for example i get no signal on HDMI again and no booting again. Since hotplug is not supported i can't plug my hdmi cable after it will boot into libreelec screen - propably same would be for other systems but i did not tried others yet.

That sounds about right. If you run omxplayer to play some video, it'll should play fine, and you may get the console back again when it finishes. You can probably do something with fbset, but I forget what.

My Pi4 finally arrived yesterday and I have same/similar issue with Motorola Atrix lapdock - the only device I currently have with micro hdmi input.
So far tried

Code: Select all

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_drive=2
config_hdmi_boost=11
but still blank screen with Pi4 after boot. This same microHDMI extension cable with additional full to micro adapter works with Pi3 and with simlar mini adapter also with Zero (all with same Buster SD card) with the Lapdock. Fortunately I got DPI working with vga666 adapter so I can finally use my Pi4 fully with my main monitor.

Now I found this thread so I'll try forcing specific resolution (1366x768) which will probably help with the Lapdock and will post its EDID info.
Also I need to get micro to full HDMI adapter so I can test anything else than the Lapdock over hdmi. Also vga666 is blocking all Pi4 gpios.

NOOBS currently sets some incorrect flags for HDMI1 in config.txt for the underlying OS (hdmi_force_hotplug=1).
Your comment "It's a normal hdmi cable with micro hdmi adapter on it." implies you're using HDMI1 (as the blob adapters don't fit in HDMI0 as they hit the power connector).
I'm confused as what exactly is incorrect ?

from the docs at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... t/video.md

hdmi_force_hotplug=1 applies to hdmi on all pi, but on a pi4 it applies to HDMI0 only
- on a pi4 it's equivalent to hdmi_force_hotplug:0=1

so to do the same for the 2nd HDMI port (HDMI1) it should be
hdmi_force_hotplug:1=1
Android app - Raspi Card Imager - download and image SD cards - No PC required !

That should not be a "surprise" as a VGA666 board needs/uses most of them:
http://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi ... apter.html
http://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi ... dV2p0.html
(I've tested the second type on a P4B - it worked well but if you "forget" to disconnect any HDMI0 you get a "mixed-up" display via VNC :oops: Haven't add time to post the details to my webpages yet - other tests/info. have a higher priority.)
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie on some older Pi's (an A, B1, B2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W) but Stretch on my 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, A+ and a B2. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

so to do the same for the 2nd HDMI port (HDMI1) it should be
hdmi_force_hotplug:1=1
But it inserts hdmi_force_hotplug=1 always, therefore you get a very confused system trying to output to a non-existent monitor on HDMI1.
Gordon was looking at it, I only diagnosed why it was doing slightly crazy things.

when you do that try switching to another console
i.e.
alt-f2
then back to alt-f1

Finally got back to this, it's been a hassle to get a proper resolution on just one monitor, (& I've only got as far as HDMI0) - but now at least I can get a look around the system - been more of a problem than it should have been.

Still lots to get sorted out, like USB booting & network boot, & I still don't know if I'll get a second monitor working yet - why doesn't it read & use the EDID info like any other distro does!

It does! However EDIDs can be very unreliable, and parsing them can be a real pain.

Please post the resulting files from "tvservice -v 2 -d hdmi0.dat" and "tvservice -v 7 -d hdmi1.dat" (gzips work as attachments). We can then recreate your setup and try to determine what is going on.

k-pi can you try to freshly format a SD card and then download and copy NOOBS to it and pop it into your PI4B and see if it works, i just did this and it works great!

No, sorry, I'm not going to risk messing it up now that I've at least got a usable desktop resolution - this monitor, & all my others, (Eyoyo), work fine on all my other computers, including RPi3B, RPi3B+, RPi3A+, & my Intel SOC, so it is definitely to do with what you are doing different on this new model.

(Prior to getting this actually working, I did try a freshly installed mSDHC card, & got no output, just as when I started this thread.)

yes a new CPU/ VPU and board layout - the HDMI interface is different

I did a "sudo rpi-update" and the new firmware fixed my multiple monitor hdmi issue. Have you already updated your firmware?

I'm going to wait a bit, hopefully soon they will release an updated Buster with all the fixes in it, else they will continue to have people with problems posting here. 8-)

(Be aware, some of the rpi-update followers had to re install.)

I have the same issue on Motorola Atrix Lapdock, it works fine on my 4k TV. whilst connected to the tv, I changed resolution to 1366x768, and tried connecting to lapdock again, and still no output to the lapdock, haven't had time to mess about to much yet, but in case it was a power issue, I ordered a pi4 psu, this made no difference.

edit: I did try the same SD card in a pi3, and it works fine with the lapdock on that
