Does the Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB) support OpenGL 3.3?

Hi,

I would like to test out Blender 2.8 on it. Blender 2.8 can run with OpenGL 3.3 only.

Does the Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB) support OpenGL 3.3.

The blender version which is installable via apt-get is 2.79

glxinfo says opengl version is 3.1
I just checked on Pi4 with glxinfo - the current supported level of opengl is 2.1

There seems to be some software out there that has deprecated openGL 2.1 and will only compile with openGL 3, but mostly 2.1 is sufficient. For example, Godot game engine https://godotengine.org/ says the minimum requirement is -
OpenGL 2.1 / OpenGL ES 2.0 compatible hardware
Given that the hardware can support ES 3.0, it should be able to support OpenGL 3, but that may be somewhere down on the to-do-list of the devs.

Godot went back to OpenGLES 2.0 I think due to user demand?

Blender seems to work fine via the normal apt-get install.
Do not expect the latest Blender version to work, the hardware requirement is too high now.

The VC6 does support OpenGLES3.2 but the Raspbian Buster is using the open source OpenGL driver which uses OpenGLES to emulate OpenGL. Not sure how optimized that is yet.

The old VC4 uses the binary blobs for OpenGLES2 etc and I don't think there is a blob for the VC6 for OpenGLES 3.0-3.2 yet?

To support OpenGL 3.3 someone would have to write a converting driver from OpenGL 3.3 to OpenGLES?
Personally I hope Broadcom just gives us a Vulkan blob for the VC6 so we can skip this mess ;)
But I imagine there is bunch of OpenGL users out there who want to upgrade

I suspect you've somehow broken hardware acceleration and that is just software emulation provided by mesa.

Yes, it was hardware acceleration switched off. After switch it on, I got OpenGL 2.1/OpenGL ES 3.0 I am experimenting with this and I never exactly know if I have it switched on or off :)

Er, totally not. It means that the main code wants to use a generic V3DX(thing) macro, and those get translated into the right function call or operation for the appropriate version of the hardware based on compile flags. IIRC The Pi4 is V3D 4.2.

Got confused when the numbers are so similar.

I do hope there will be a new Videocore 6 manual.
So VC6 only goes up to OpenGLES 3.0 or 3.2 but there is no source for that yet?
