Tried everything and still cannot get any cameras to work

Mon Jul 01, 2019 2:25 pm

Hi there everyone. I've been having problems with my Raspberry Pi's cameras. So far I have tried:
  • 2 Raspberry Pi 3s
2 Raspberry Pi Zero WHs (v1.3)
    1 Raspberry Pi Zero W (v1.1)
Fresh Installs of Raspbian Stretch Lite and Normal with the recommended software
Fresh Installs of Raspbian Buster Lite and Normal with the recommended software
    2 Pi Zero Cameras
1 Standard socketed IR enabled camera with two different cables (normal and mini/micro/whatever connector)
in every single combination and still can't get them to work. I checked the cables and all pins make contact and the ports should be five (I don't think all five of them could be broken). I enabled camera and I2C (both at the same time and camera only separately) from sudo raspi-config and the preferences tab and any sort of camera application still say "Camera is not enabled." I'll add the full error in an edit from my Pi.
typing:

Code: Select all

vcgenc get_camera
result in:

Code: Select all

supported=1 detected=0
Do any ideas come in mind? I seriously can't think of a reason and I need to get them working asap, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Could you post two images of the cable/connector connections both on the camera side and the Raspberry side ?
The only idea that I have is that the cable could be connected in a wrong way.

I think some Pi's had the connector mounted the wrong way around.

Yes but not:
2 Raspberry Pi 3s
2 Raspberry Pi Zero WHs (v1.3)
1 Raspberry Pi Zero W (v1.1)
that the OP says have been tried without success.

All the parts are back at school right now (I'll be there tomorrow as well), but the cable was correctly attached. I know this because the IR Lights on the camera received power and were on. This is the camera I'm talking about (https://www.robotistan.com/raspberry-pi ... -led-modul) and the lights are under the circular diffusers at both sides. Also, as a side note, turns out all three of the Pi Zeros are v1.1s, which i'm not sure how since afaik only the v1.3 has a camera connector but it's what it says on the back of the board.

Thats not a genuine Raspberry Pi Camera - I suggest you contact the supplier or manufacturer Waveshare.

That does not ring true. I'm typing this with the index finger of my right hand while my left hand is holding a Zero that came with the MagPi #40 that I bought in the local WH Smith. On the back of that Zero is "Raspberry Pi zero V1.2"

IIRC, the Pi0 (not W) had 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 variants, only the 1.3 has CSI. (Not sure if 1.1 was ever released for sale.)
The Pi0W is still at 1.1 with CSI.

I can't attach the image of my Pi because of size limitations (its the Raspberry Pi Zero Wireless v1.1) of but what I don't understand is that these cameras and boards used to work perfectly, but now (after a month of not being touched) they don't. I ordered another Pi a few days ago and it still hasn't arrived and I have to finish this thing until tomorrow evening. One of the Pi Zero's CSI connector has its latch broken, but even that used to work with some hot glue. Any ideas?
