I have now set up mirrorbrain to provide mirror redirection services for raspbian. It is available at http://mirrordirectortest.raspbian.org/raspbian
I will point mirrordirector.raspbian.org when I am sure it is working correctly and when I have more mirrors set up.
I chose mirrorbrain over the http.debian.net code because the http.debian.net code makes (in particular it assumes that the mirrors are doing 2-stage syncs with trace files which most of ours are not)
Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
has anyone actually tested this yet? if so can you please provide feedback on whether it works fine for you. The system seems to be working fine to me but i'd like some feedback before I throw the switch and point all our users at it.
Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
What exactly do you want us to test? I did a quick test and I was sent to a working mirror. But it was not the closest one, but I'm not sure how you decide where to send request and if all the mirrors from the Wiki is included or not.

Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Mostly I want people to use it as their apt source for a while and make sure things still work for them.
Which mirror were you sent to? Not all mirrors on the wiki are included because they either didn't respond to my request for permission or because of other issues.

Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Hi,
Regards
Is it possible to know (or have a way to know) which mirrors are included ? As the owner of one of the mirrors, I suppose I would have been notified in case of issue ?plugwash wrote:Which mirror were you sent to? Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
I installed Raspbian using installer pointed to mirrordirectortest without any problems. Will use it as a source for a while.

Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Hi,
I'm having problems with the mirror director. I'm in Thailand and it connects to a university in China which often fails.
Can someone advise me on a UK or other reliable mirror.
Thank you.
Adam

Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Worked it out myself.
edited apt-get sources.list.
Removed the mirror director and used archive.raspberrypi.org.....
If anyone else has problems with the China mirror then there's your answer

Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Based on this comment I have now decided to restrict that mirror to serve china only.I'm having problems with the mirror director. I'm in Thailand and it connects to a university in China which often fails.
umm, archive.raspberrypi.org is the foundation's repo for the packages they add to raspbian in their images. The main repo for raspbian is archive.raspbian.org.adskiremote wrote: Removed the mirror director and used archive.raspberrypi.org.....
Re: mirror redirection system available for testing
Please remove mirror.nbtelecom.com.br. It is a mess and preventing updates and pkg installations.
