FPGA opensource toolchain now on raspberry

Sat May 25, 2019 10:07 am

Hi to all,

I am from makerspace Radiona in Zagreb.
One member developed ULX3S -- fully opensource FPGA board.

Recently other member made small portable terminal with raspberry pi

So we needed to combine those two and we tested opensource toolchain on raspberry pi!
You can check in this video how you can use hgTerminal to write Verilog and program FPGA

And here is more info about ULX3S
Some videos:

Recently we had really nice Verilog workshop so you can check material

To make this board more availlable we submitted it to hackaday.io prize

So if you like it please vote for us!
You need to sign in to hackaday.io go to our project and click like.

We are currently at 2. place, but until the end every vote count.

That is a gorgeous looking board.

I have been toying with Verilog and the open source Verilog tools, Yosys, for a while and have been looking forward to the ECP5 support maturing. This looks like a perfect board to get started with.

Aside: I like to use the SpinalHDL hardware description language: https://spinalhdl.github.io/SpinalDoc-RTD/. It makes writing RTL a much nicer experience and generates Verilog or VHDL as output. I have yet to try SpinalHDL on the Raspberry Pi but it should work as it uses the Java VM.

I also love the look of that Raspberry Pi terminal. I want one !
