What WIFI device is best for Pi?
I don't have a long enough ethernet cable for internet.
Re: What WIFI device is best for Pi?
There are lots of verified devices at
http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals
My personal favourite at the moment is
dx.com/p/120933 (warning: delivery takes approx 3 weeks but is free)
Some people have reported that this type of device works on Raspbian without needing any extra drivers.
Remember that you will have to configure security if you have security enabled on your WiFi network, but other than that there should be very little effort required..

Take a look at an Asus USB-N10 EZ Wireless-N USB Adapter.
Re: What WIFI device is best for Pi?
Is it one of those Wifi-Sticks that need extra power from another USB-hub or can it run on the Pi's power?
Other than that it seems like a great little thing, and its so cheap too!

EDIT: Im referring to bredmans post!

The Asus USB-N10 is a tiny little USB device that uses the Pi power.

In the wiki somebody says that it will run direct from the RPi. However, the fuses on each board can vary widely, so this could just be a lucky coincidence.
If you REALLY want to run a WiFi device from the RPi USB port, you can (carefuly) short the USB fuse with solder or a tiny piece of aluminium foil. This will void your warranty of course.

Re: What WIFI device is best for Pi?
After trying unsuccessfully with a no-name usb dongle on rasberian wheezy I tried an 'edimax' off ebay:
"EDIMAX EW-7811UN WIRELESS 802.11 B/G/N 150MBPS NANO USB ADAPTER" and it works fine.
I used MrEngman's automatic set-up script mentioned in this thread:

The Edimax above works brilliantly and it doesn't stick out much so no mechanical worries.
The auto install script just works on Raspbian
Unless you need to save £5 after many hours of searching - just get it
