I‘m searching a solution to connect with a RPI-Client to a USG4Pro VPN Server over L2TP-IPSEC connection. I started with Openswan, but without success.
Does anyine has a howto or rpi-app to make a vpn-client on Raspbian?

I would be interested in trying to setup IPsec between two pi, or even pi to my lab cisco router.
PS: I know openvpn is much easier, im just interested.

Thankyou. But it seems to be a howto for a SERVER setup. We are searching a CLIENT setup.

Scroll down those install notes to the "Next Steps" section. That includes instructions for setting up clients in various OS.

I tried configuring a VPN client on a RPi 3B+ with Buster without success.
VPN server is working on a Google Cloud Engine.

This seems like such a novice task considering the target audience for raspbian and the endless uses for a Pi. However it is incredibly difficult because some of the debian packages that would help accomplish this dont have raspbian ARM builds.
I've tried so many methods of getting this to work and I honestly dont have specifics because I didnt keep track of my steps so admittedly this post isn't alot of help.
But my goal is a simple repeatable process that does not require editing a bunch of config files or generating certs which uses readily available packages and can be setup by novice users.
No, L2TP is not bleeding edge but it does work. I'll try another go around and post back if I can make some progress.
