Maybe ask them directly: contact eltechs at http://forum.eltechs.com/ or [email protected]

I dont know what was their problem, but I think their product is/was helpfull for some people. Not for me but I have a friend who still runs a stock managment program original made for windows 98 or so on the raspberry pi with it. It is a good product, and not expensive if it really serves you.

They don’t answer for emails. Not in fb, nor a VK.com I’m desperate, my whole project was connected to it. And now that. Maybe somebody can help me for a donation? Maybe consultation or help?

Can anyone share the product key which is not in use? I would like to pay for it.
I am setting up a Pi with delay of about 10 days before they closed and I was not aware of it. Furthermore at this moment I could not find better replacement.

ExaGear was always failing, and Eltechs probably knew that their product was failing. They were getting people to pay just to run x86 applications when the same thing can essentially be achieved with an x86 chroot. Also, they got an employee of their company to spam about their product on this forum. Not the best way to spend your money in my opinion.

My speculation. If I read descriptions of ExaGear correctly, they took QEMU and Wine, optimized them, DRMed the whole package and sold it for $27.

I bet this was gross violation of QEMU license, which is essentially GPL V2. https://wiki.qemu.org/License
GPL requires anyone who supplies binaries (paid or for free) to provide source code as well, applies to derivative works as well.

Obviously someone reminded them about this, and therefore software was practically scrubbed off internet.

It was sold at varying $$$ prices during its short life. ;)

IMO in a Linux environment any software that costs more than 0$ is doomed to failure. I don't care if it is source free or not.
Even with Windows, except for the OS itself, I have not needed to buy any software for decades. This due to opensource projects such as LibreOffice,
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Depends on what it is and how many are willing to pay for the convenience of zero effort, not having to figure out the how-to themselves, whether those potentially willing to pay consider it to be good value for money or not.

Eltechs problem as I see it was they were in a niche market to start with, and they were refusing to allow any try-before-you-buy trial so potential purchasers could not make an informed decision, could not even assess if it would work for their intended purpose, before paying.

No evidence, and seems more likely they simply never made any money out of it. It would be easy enough to supply the source code of the apps used, but still keep some home grown secret cause back.

I have no evidence one way or the other.

AFAIK, there were no GPL violations of any kind. These aren't good accusations to throw around without being 100% sure.

There is nothing that says you can't sell free software and all the changes they've made were public on github. Qemu would've just been in their userland archive which wasn't "DRMed".

Hello, kind of a silly question but does anyone have a download for the ExaGear desktop files? If yes please post them i would be really thankful.
If this is impossible I am willing to sell my licence.

Hi Jurosik5000 is that key still for sale? If so, let me know as I am interested in getting another key for my cloned raspberry pi.

Thanks

Was it even capable of executing x86 Assembly Code? That's the whole reason I got Exagear..... if not are there other ways of compiling x86 Assembly code? I was conducting research for a professor of mine that was looking into possibly transitioning his Assembly classes to run on Raspberry Pi.

This may be a silly question but if one is going to teach assembler on the Pi why not teach ARM assembler? Compile, run, easy.

There is no need for the x86 part. Unless said professor does not want to rewrite his teaching materials for ARM.
