PI 3 keeps rebooting [solved]

Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:43 am

Hi. I'm new to the Raspberry PI. I am building a Arcade 1UP system using Retropi. The cabinet that I bought is the PacMan one. The screen is vertical and I need it horizontal. The PI was working great just the image was turned to the right.

I watched a video on YouTube where a guy was showing how to get the image to rotate on the screen. I did just as he showed and it worked to turn the image 90 degrees (I actually needed it more). The system had me to reboot (restart) it. When it came back on it seems to be in some kind of start up loop.

It starts up, the lights on the arcade buttons will light up, it shows the RetroPie logo (which is now upside down) and then the whole thing shuts off and starts the process all over.

Pleas help me as I love my PI. Thanks for any help. I have a short video of what it is doing if there is a way of uploading it.

Hi.

As with all problems relating to a pi continuously rebooting on start up, the first question always is, what are you using as a power supply ?

It would also help to know exactly which model of pi you are using ?

Might also help to explain exactly what you did to rotate your screen, including which files you may have edited.

It's an LG travel adapter that has 100-240V, model number STA-U34WDI, 5.1 volt. It is a model 3B.

I went to:
Main menu
Welcome screen (has the "NO GAME PADS DETECTED")
F4
PI BOOT SCREEN
SUDO NANO /BOOT/CONFIG.TXT
ENTER GOTO BOTTOM OF SCREEN BREAK LINE
DISPLAY_ROTATE=1 (I know this should have been 3)
CTRL PLUS X BUTTONS
SAVE AND MODIFY
Y
ENTER
REBOOT

It rebooted and started doing the reboot deal. Thanks for helping..

A charger is not a power supply, they are both designed for different applications:

5.1V 0.7A

That's not even close to enough power for a Pi 3B (it's barely enough for a Pi Zero)!

And as fruitoftheloom said, chargers are not power supplies. Things should work much better with the official power supply.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thanks for the help. I plugged it all back in and it worked, I then redone the screen rotate again and it got back into the reboot loop.

I won't turn it back on until I get the new power supply. Thanks again and I'll post back after I get it back together Saturday or Sunday. Thanks again.

Actually... That's the current spec for the original Model B!
