aishub.net's rPiAIS has 2 eth0 and 2 IP address for eth0

Tue Mar 19, 2019 1:48 pm

Dear All,

I am facing the big problem of having two eth0 and two diff range of IP address.

Code: Select all

IDX LINK TYPE
OPERATIONAL SETUP
  1 lo loopback carrier
 unmanaged
  2 eth0 ether routable
configured
  3 wlan0 wlan no-carrier
configuring

● State: routable
       Address: 172.16.32.254 on eth0
                 192.168.1.159 on eth0
The network connection will dropped after approx 24 hours of operation. The eth0 routable changed to "failed" instead of "configured". No response to the network and can only manually disconnecting the USB port (power), then re-plug the USB (Power) to turn on the rPiAIS, unfortunately, the rPiAIS will no longer to local network, the eth0 is gone. The only solution to turn it back is wait for certain time... Then restart the rPiAIS, then it back to normal.

FYI, my LAN router is with IP range of 192.168.1.254. I assumed the IP address 172.16.32.254 on eth0 is a virtual and how to disable or remove it completely?

Thank you.

Your connection on the LAN (192.168.1.159) drops somehow.
Perhaps the DHCP server doesn't like that other address the Pi has and refuses to give it an address when it tries to renew its lease.

Try to see if the DHCP server can be set to be "authoritative". Otherwise, you can try configuring an infinite length lease for the Pi, or perhaps a fixed address (theoretically not equivalent but who knows.)
If everything fails, set the Pi to manual configuration for its primary IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.2)

Not sure this is the right place for support, I'd never heard of rPIAS...

Hi epoch1970,

Thanks for the reply.

rPiAIS is a Raspbian Stretch Image with AIS (automatic identification system) -- can refer to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic ... ion_system for more info.

rPiAIS can be downloaded from http://www.aishub.net/rpiais.

I have no idea how to fix the problem and try to asking in this forum group as this group is raspberry pi and raspbian support, the image file I have downloaded from also raspbian stretch with additional application installed, I don't know this is the right place or not.

Yes, the LAN IP Address (192.168.1.159) dropped somehow when the network connected for certain time (approx 24 hours) then the routing configured will failed, then no longer let me to access.

(The configured below the eth0 will turn into failed once exceed for approx 24 hours of operation.)

What can I do to remove or disable the 172.16.32.254 on eth0?
When I type ip route at the terminal, I get this:-

Code: Select all

pi@rPiAIS:~$ sudo ip route
default via 192.168.1.254 dev eth0 proto dhcp src 192.168.1.159 metric 200
172.16.32.252/30 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.32.254
192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.159
192.168.1.254 dev eth0 proto dhcp scope link src 192.168.1.159 metric 200
When I type sudo ip neigh show, I get:-

Code: Select all

pi@rPiAIS:~$ sudo ip neigh show
192.168.1.245 dev eth0 lladdr 30:0e:d5:bd:0d:4e REACHABLE
192.168.1.254 dev eth0 lladdr e0:b9:e5:df:8d:c2 REACHABLE

fe80::e2b9:e5ff:fedf:8dc2 dev eth0 lladdr e0:b9:e5:df:8d:c2 router REACHABLE
pi@rPiAIS:~$

When I type networkctl status , I get:-

Code: Select all

● State: routable
       Address: 172.16.32.254 on eth0
                192.168.1.159 on eth0

                fe80::ba27:ebff:feca:5319 on eth0
Anyway, if this is not the right place to ask for support / help, please accept my apology and I will request admin to remove this from the forum.

Best regards,

You do not remove the secondary address 172.16.32.254, it is the network used by PiAIS.
I understand you're supposed to use a Desktop with address 172.16.32.253 to access the software running on the Pi.

Again. On you main network, DHCP lease renewal fails. That is the problem.
I suggest you try fixing it as posted above.

Hi,

So, is it my router's DHCP lease renewal failed? But all my other 8 Raspberry pi don't have such problem for 7/24 of operation.

Only this rPiAIS has network routing issue. That is why if possible can turn off the secondary IP address of 172.16.32.xxx, it will have no issue as my other rPiAIS after crashed with the network issue, it suddenly renamed to "enxb827eb660d2b" instead of eth0, then no more LAN dropped. I can't see the 172.16.32.xxx as a secondary IP Address in the list again.

Regards.

Connecting your rPiAIS
Insert SD card into your Raspberry Pi and power it on
Connect your Raspberry Pi to your local network
By default rPiAIS connects automatically via DHCP. You can check your IP address by connecting external display and keyboard and logging into your rPi with the default credentials:

Username: pi
Password: raspberry
After successful login your IP addresses will be displayed in the welcome message.

If your network does not support DHCP or if you have any problems with automatic connection, you can always use the fallback IP address 172.16.32.254 (on Ethernet interface only!)

You should set your PC with:

IP: 172.16.32.253
Net mask: 255.255.255.252

The IP address of 172.16.32.253 is a fallback IP.

Is it possible to stop it or disable it? I know this is something silly question...

Thanks in advance.

Regards.
