think my pi2 b broke. can i get my files back?

When I look at the sd card in windows I can see what looks like a boot partition, then their is a larger partition that can been seen by windows but is unreadable. I presume this is a linux partition not fat32? i get a power and act light solid on my board. nothing on screen. doesn't show up on router.

Just read it, with an external sdhc microSD usb reader dongle, in pretty much any Linux workstation. That could be your RPi running from a fresh install of Raspbian on a new microSD card, or a conventional 'Windows' PC booted in 'liveCD' mode from this Raspberry Pi Foundation distribution: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/r ... i-desktop/

Or any other Linux workstation.

The 'missing link' is that your own files are stored in a 'root' filesystem represented by a filestore partition defined in a way that a basic Windows system will not acknowledge or read.

Simplest way is to create another SD with Raspbian or Raspbian light and then put this card into the Pi USB drive via an adapter. You can then mount it and copy files over as needed (the forum can help if you do not know how to find and mount the card).

Failing that you can load Linux disk format drivers onto a Mac or Pc and read the card.

If not I am sure another Windows user will chip in to help you. Best thing is to let folk here know what version of Windows you have though
