In the Mall of America there’s an Apple store and Microsoft store directly across the hall from each other.

Oh to have a Raspberry Pi store in the same hall.....

I'd love to go...but it's kind of hard for me to get to Cambridge, MA, let alone Cambridge, UK.
Do you mean Cambridge, US and Cambridge, Cambs?
Isn't it obvious that "Cambridge, MA" is Cambridge, Massachusetts, US of A?

Would if it have helped if I made the comparison on my side of The Pond as Cambridge, MA (Massachusetts), US?

"Computer firm", honestly I don't think of Raspberry Pi as a computer firm. "Computer firm" to me seems like something huge, the only thing I can think of huge regarding Raspberry Pi is the number of products sold.
The raspberry pi is the third best-selling computer of all time after the PC and the Mac....

Pretty sure we can be a computer firm.

Is the shop run by Raspberry Pi Trading or Raspberry Pi Foundation.

It would be good to know what budget this is coming out of and whether or not it is actually viable financially.

How many goods does one need to sell to break even ??

Minor point is it a Raspberry Pi PoS ??

Wonder if it gets flooded with people like Apple stores?
Any plans for a bigger store or too early to tell?

Of course people living out in the sticks may very well not have heard of any random town back in Blighty or where it is.

On the other hand, I am surprised that Raspberry Pi enthusiasts and regulars of this forum seem to not know from where it originated.

Anyway, it sounds great.

Hey, you should move to Helsinki. Perhaps not factory sized but there are 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering stations in the libraries around here.

No really: https://www.oodihelsinki.fi/en/services/

Feel free to start them up - the more the merrier! Expensive though.

Lots of places already have them of course.

by your definition of a computer:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ ... ile_phones
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64 might be in the same range than RPis

a bunch of routers with openWRT running can then also be seen as computers.. and a lot of other stuff as well.. :D

I'm not prepared to categorize phones, game consoles and routers as computers. Despite the fact they contain computers and with a bit of effort can be used as such, I have done so with all three. That is not the primary purpose for which they are made and marketed.

The C64 may be a contender depending on if one counts all Pi ever sold as just slight variants of the same thing or if one considers all the Pi models as different machines.

Here's a quote from that C64 Wikipedia. Perhaps I should have used the phrase computing platform, but everyone else knew what I meant.

"It has been widely claimed that between 18 and 22 million C64s were sold worldwide. Company sales records, however, indicate that the total number was about 12.5 million. Based on that figure, the Commodore 64 was still the third most popular computing platform in the 21 century until the Raspberry Pi family replaced it."

Looking at the Atari 2600 (I had one of those!) I expect we will overtake its 30M in the next 18/24 months.

Oh, and please keep on topic. I'm as guilty as the next man, but the thread is about the shop.

I see many people ask what the limit is... But what I don't understand is what they can do with so many Pi Zeros.
1 * Raspberry Pi Zero W, 1 * Raspberry Pi 2, 1 * Raspberry Pi 3 1 * Raspberry Pi 3B +

Maybe coming soon "school trip to Raspberry Pi shop....."?
