This is exactly the info I was looking for! What is the Wifi distance of the PI3? I want to use the PI on water to measure weather reading and be able to use my phone to access a web page on it for the readings.

Thanks,
Kevin

The antenna is very small (about 2mm by 9mm), so expect to get about 50ft range (~15.25m). A better way around this is to buy a USB WiFi adapter, which can give you upwards of ~500ft range (152.4m). Make sure it supports Linux.

It has not been easy to find such a device. I looked on Amazon and I could not find a usb wifi adapter with an antenna, with the right Linux and hostapd support.

Would anyone here have any recommendations? It's tricky, since not only does it need Linux support but it also needs hostapd support to make it usable as an access point.

I use the Alfa brand, and they work well with RPis. Plug-N-Play.

That Alfa Network device looks really good.

Do you need to use a mini-usb to usb cable to connect it with the Raspberry Pi?

you don't need to know the uuid, you have to set the uuid you want to use on both client and server
