Wow, a G6 that's still working? I seem to recall that came out about a year after I adopted my bunny Zoom-zoom, and that was back in 2010. I still have a Sony VAIO VPCF121GX/BC from 2010 that works, sort of, and that's a year older than the HP G6.
The Sony's keyboard was messed up, and it was seriously overheating, but I took it apart and fixed a broken heatsink mount, then cleaned it up and applied fresh thermal paste, and just tossed the busted keyboard. It's now sitting in our spare room hosting the "Broken Laptop" Minecraft 1.13.2 SMP server. I call it a headless server, but technically the screen still works. It's got a quad core i7 and 8GB of RAM, but it's still running off a hard drive. I should clone that to a spare SSD and swap it out.
I have another Minecraft SMP server for version 1.12.2 running on a Pi 3B+ (that one really is headless). 1.13 was too much for the little Pi, but the SpigotMC version 1.12.2 server works great (for small groups of players).
Anyway, back to your G6. Time for a wipe and reinstall. I do a clean install of my Win10 gaming laptop about once a year. Usually after the fall update, but this last one was so messed up I'm waiting for the spring update (so I don't have to download hundreds of updates to "fix" the clean install).
If you're not adamant about running Windows on your old lappy, you might want to give Debian x86 with the Raspberry Pi Desktop
a try. If you're used to Raspbian you should feel right at home, and it could breathe new life into that... um... "Classic" computer.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?
