Hi,
first of all I would like to thank you all for the good work and sharing knowledge!
My new Pi Zero W should serve as a music player. From my first research I thought I just molder a Toslink transmitter to the correct pins and configure Raspian... Poor research! (Btw: Why doesn't that work???)
But reading this thread gives me hope for a solution. Is this TinyTOSLINK available for Pi Zero W? The "wired" solution (like in http://abload.de/img/rev_b_pluse7oi5.jpg) suits the purpose, the perfect PCB is not necessary.
BNC would be as good.
Thank you very much and best regards

Re: TinyTOSLINK (digital audio output) now for B+, too
Hi vylpi
Connecting a Toslink transmitter directly is not really possible, because you need a very accurate timing for the optical signal.
The Raspberry Pi has a Audio interface and you just need a sound processor which converts this to the optical signal.
If you buy my board it should fit onto the Pi Zero W like on a normal Pi B+ (because the header should be the same).
You just need to solder the header onto your Pi - if you want I can also include a header for you to solder.

Is there a way to disable tinytoslink via software?
I have a receiver that only has 1 digital input, so i connected my TV and tinytoslink with a Y-Splitter to the receiver.
The tinytoslink module emits light all the time, so I cannot hear the sound of my TV.
Is there a way to disable tinytoslink by software, so I can disable it when I want to watch TV and enable it again if i want to hear music?

Hi,
what OS do you use?
On OpenElec and LibreElec the transmitter shuts off when there is nothing to transmit.
I had a similiar issue, but didn't want tu use a Y cable or a simple switch with a remote.
So I also designed a optical audio switch (with automatic input detection, 4 or 7 inputs and some optional nice features).
You can take a look at it here:
https://www.tindie.com/products/Beni_Sk ... io-switch/
Maybe you are interested in something?
Best Regards

That looks awesome, but I guess that's a little too much for just two inputs.BenjaminKe wrote: Maybe you are interested in something?

The TV does not emit light when it is in standby.
I'm running osmc on my raspberry pi. I'm using shairport-sync to listen to music.
When I restart the Pi, the transmitter shuts off when there is no audio input just fine. But if I leave it running for a few days, something causes it to emit light.
I stopped the shairport-sync service, but that did not stop it from emitting light.
Edit:
You should have told me about that a few weeks ago, I just bought some sabre dac.
If I still were in need of a dac, i would definately buy your board.

Hi,
the cheapest version has 4 inputs and 2 inputs wouldn't be cheaper - and maybe you have a 3rd device sometime in the future
with the prioritized inputs on this switch it would definetely work for you
if we make a private order I can make a special price for you (Tindie charges fees)
maybe you should try LibreElec - maybe this works better for you?
I'm only using LibreElec and the transmitter always switches off.
Best Regards

I see If I can sell my DAC, if someone buys it I will get right back to you.
Maybe shipping can get a little cheaper as well, since we're neighbours (Hallo aus Deutschland

Yes sure just write me a PM

Re: TinyTOSLINK (digital audio output) now for B+, too
So finally my Pi Zero W is a neat little Music Player:
Software:
- Raspbian
- MPD controlled via MPDroid on old Android Phone
- YMPD (just for testing)
- Music on a network share
Hardware:
- Pi ZeroW
- TinyTOSLINK PCB
- Oak wood
- High End optical cable, Camtech DAC, etc.

Thank you very much, Benjamin!

Re: TinyTOSLINK (digital audio output) now for B+, too
Hi all,
does anyone experience "clicks" while starting / stopping playback? I do: When I start playback, it seems my DAC wakes up and needs to tell me it found some input.
Is there way to let the optical output stay active to keep it in sync with the DAC? I think of some silence track in a loop or such.
Thanks for any comment!

Hi vylpi,
depending on the software which you use for playback on the Pi there should be a "keep alive" option somewhere.
Best Regards

Hi Benjamin,
thanks for good work.
I am very interested on a TinyTOSLINK for my Raspberry Pi 3.
Are they still available?

Re: TinyTOSLINK (digital audio output) now for B+, too
Hi Jörg,
Are you still able to supply this board? My requirement is as following:
For: Rpi3 B+
Board requirement: I need the board to have an input not an output through a Optical Digital Audio connector.
I basically need your board to receive the audio through the ODA input and I want to be able to use my rpi3 B+ to stream this audio signal through wifi.
I would be needing 2 boards for now.
Regards,
Michael

This is optical... I don't mind soldering a mickey-mouse pin header to an RCA and using coaxial though. The pinout on the PI are GPIO. Does it take a special driver for this device to operate? Or is there a dedicated pin for spdif on the header or even just solder pads... or pins on an IC I can solder to on my pi2?... all it is is spdif and gnd, piece of cake for many motherboards. The price of this is affordable, but some are like 179 euro, I wouldn't drop 250 on my pi2

Hi,
no there is no S/PDIF directly on the Pi - that's why you need the audio processor which is on the tinyToslink (and also the HifiBerry).
If you need coax S/PDIF you can add this to the tinyToslink (with a small cable with RCA plug) - I have such cables at home and I can provide this also to you if you want.
(You can also PM me via Tindie)
Best Regards

Hi,
I want to direct optical output from Chromecast Audio to Pi3B+ which is running Forked DAAPD. Can TinyTOSLINK receive optical audio input from Chromecast Audio and forward it to Pi?
Thanks.

Hi,
yes I also have a toslink input version of the module, but I never found the time to test it out myself.
However a few people already bought one and use it, so it seems like it's working fine with the HifiBerry driver.
I think the easiest way is when you contact me on Tindie, where you can also buy it.
Best Regards
