Fri Nov 09, 2018 2:28 pm

I was going to install Raspbian stretch lite on my Pi 3 but at the bios screen after I entered my username and password what is the next command that I enter?

That's not the BIOS, you're in. The next command you enter will depend on what you want to do.

If you were after full desktop rather than the command line, you should start with the full Raspbian image, not Raspbian Lite.

The next commands you enter should be:

$ cat > hello.c << 'EOF'
> #include <stdio.h>
> int main(void) { puts("hello, world"); }
> EOF
$ gcc -W -Wall -Werror -o hello hello.c
$ ./hello
hello, world
$

Edit: After you see the 'gcc' command fail, then do:

$ sed -i 's/;/; return 0;/' hello.c

Then try the gcc again.

Assuming you've not made the mistake of installing Raspbian Lite the next command should be
sudo raspi-config
From the menu choose
3 Boot Options Configure options for start-up
Then
B1 Desktop / CLI Choose whether to boot into a des
Then
B4 Desktop Autologin Desktop GUI, automatically logged in as '' user

That will get you to a desktop on reboot.

If you've installed Raspbian Lite you either need to start again with full-fat Raspbian or you'd need to install the raspberrypi-ui-mods to get the desktop stuff available. Then after a reboot follow the process I've given you above.

The "Lite" version of Raspbian has no Desktop/GUI. It is command line only (you type commands you want the OS to execute or run). What you see on the screen IS the Raspbian Stretch Lite OS.

The first command to run in Raspbian Lite is usually sudo raspi-config to complete your system setup (change password and hostname, configure localisations, turn various interfaces on/off, etc.). From there you just do whatever you need.

If you want the Desktop graphical user interface, you should probably start over with the full Raspbian Stretch with Desktop, but you could also just install a desktop on Lite (sudo apt update && sudo apt install raspberrypi-ui-mods for the default Raspberry Pi Desktop GUI).
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

That caught me by surprise too when I installed Raspbian Stretch Lite.... thinking it was a "lighter" version of the desktop (just boot to minimal desktop environment, apps/packages to be added later by user)

then I checked again the documentation.... re-flashed the microSD with the desktop version instead....end of problem....
