Noticed you can run it without patch with: sudo SDL_FB_BROKEN_MODES=1 ./eduke32
But seems to run a bit too slow to be playable in this mode.

Try updating firmware and running it without patches/SDL_FB_BROKEN_MODES=1

I guess I'm in the minority that looks forward to non-FPS open source games on the pi... any work on that? It's great you can get so many of these games working but FPSs get old really really fast... I would think we would have some developers interested in other areas of the spectrum

Any title suggestions for simple unaccelerated (easy to compile without major changes) games?

Must:

• be open source
• not use OpenGL
• be written in C or C++

OpenRA mentioned earlier uses mono/.net, and I'm afraid that might get too slow.
Most of the other games listed use standard OpenGL and need more work to port to OpenGL ES.

After flashing a new SD card with the new (September 2012) Raspbian image - highly recommended by the way - I did a sudo apt-cache search for 'Oolite', the game which is a tribute to that very similar sounding classic 80s space trading / combat game.. it was there, so I did an apt-get install oolite, everything appeared to go OK but then when I tried to run it from an LXDE terminal window it just came up with error messages. I don't even know if the version I found was the ARM version or for I386.

Anyone managed to get Oolite running on the Pi? How did you do it?

ScummVM is available for Raspbian and can play many old-school 2D point-and-click adventure games. Some of these have been re-released as freeware (e.g. Beneath A Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen).

I guess it's because of my age, but I've always like the Rogue style character graphic games like crawl, which are available through apt-get. Runs really fast on RPi through a ssh connection too.

Marathon: Aleph One - You can get the source here and probably need the game files etc too. Seems to be on the same level as Doom for the graphics here.
