I installed Openoffice.org on my Pi
( sudo apt-get install openoffice.org )
Works fine, although slow to load from the sd card
However shows the Raspberry pi can be used for a low cost general computer, or even to teach conventional ICT.
Here it is showing one of my powerpoints:

Thanks for that command line, Jack. Getting openoffice is my first job on my pi now I have it working. But first a cup of tea, and then a few domestic chores.

Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
very interesting, im hoping to use one of many of my Pi's to connect to a old projector (i hope it as a RCA Video port!) to display adverts on a slide show, just need to figure out how to get it to auto launch when the Pi gets power (should be pretty easy I guess)

You might want to try Abiword. It is much, much "lighter" than Openoffice so a better fit for resource challenged devices.

Just amazing, but I agree that for most things Abiword would be a better choice, but still just the fact that it works makes me grin!

Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
Do you have to re-partition the SD card once you installed the Linux image?
Tony
Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
No. If using the 4GB image, it fills up the card. If using a larger SD card than image, then you can create new partitions at the end of the image very easily - I do that for swap partitions etc.

Hi Jack,
I need your help. What does your /etc/apt/sources.list look like.
My sources.list came as:
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main non-free
# Nokia Qt5 development
deb http://archive.qmh-project.org.....pi/debian/ unstable main
I typed in LXTerminal: sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
I got a bunch of errors:
ERR http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debia.....ueeze/main openoffice.org-style-galaxy all 1:3.2.1-11+squeeze4
Temporary failure resolving http://ftp.uk.debian.org
ERR http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debia.....ueeze/main uno-libs3 armel 1.6.1+00o3.2.1-11+squeeze4
Temporary failure resolving http://ftp.uk.debian.org
...
I am in the US. I even changed both http://ftp.uk -> http://ftp.us It got worse. Please help. Thanks.

Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
Someone else has made that very point in another post about problems resolving http://ftp.uk.debian.org .
I installed OpenOffice and everything installed fine with no errors. Perhaps you could have another go to see whether the problem still exists.
I am in the UK.
It doesn't look to me that you are having problems with the download itself, If your Pi can't resolve the name of a site it seems more of a DNS issue.

Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
I installed openoffice.org on my Pi running Debain Wheezy no problems, did a update of it last night still no problems.
But I'm unable to get openoffice installed on my Pi. Running the newest Raspbian wheezy I also get the following error messages below. Is there something I need to do differently? Thanks!
root@raspberrypi:~# sudo apt-get install openoffice.org

Re: Openoffice productivity tools on RPi
I believe that problems have been encountered in building these for Raspbian which is why they are not (yet) available. You either have to wait until the build problems have been resolved or use an alternative.
