Current set up:
-Raspberry Pi Model 3B+
-Sleepy Pi 2 attached to GPIO pins
-OS: Raspbian Stretch
-Card Format: FAT32 for boot partition
The Raspberry Pi acts as an access point for other Raspberry Pis so they can transfer data between their own personal network to the AP, then the AP will transfer it elsewhere. I have the AP set up so that it's on for 15 minutes every hour (by using the SleepyPi) to accept the data transfer from the Pis. The AP will boot properly in the beginning but at some point, the Pi decides that it can no longer read the SD card and has a solid green and solid red light. Since it can't boot up the Sleepy Pi can't take over and turn off the Pi.
